Top Bottom EA — EURUSD Volatility Adaptive EA, 3.38 Profit Factor Over 10 Years
Top Bottom EA is a MetaTrader 4 expert advisor that trades EURUSD and GBPCAD using a volatility adaptive mechanism — one position at a time, each with a hard stop loss, averaging roughly 4 trades per day held for approximately 12 hours.
A 10-year backtest on EURUSD starting from $2,000 returned a 3.38 profit factor with 81.41% win rate and 1.37% maximal drawdown. A live account on ICMarkets SC Live08 at 1:500 leverage shows 85% win rate across 208 trades.
Key Benefits
- ✅ Capital Floor: Verified to run on $20 minimum deposit across 10-year backtests — micro-account accessible, but lower capital compresses the recovery buffer on a 5-loss streak.
- ✅ Strategy: Volatility adaptive entry fires one signal at a time with every position carrying a defined stop loss — consistent exposure per trade, no position pyramiding. Compare EA strategies
- ✅ Risk Control: StopLoss fixed at 800 points and one-trade-at-a-time logic prevent simultaneous open exposure from compounding — no Martingale grid scaling. Browse more low-drawdown EAs
- ✅ Instrument Scope: Documented across EURUSD and GBPCAD with consistent profit factor above 2.18 on both pairs — multi-pair deployment is possible but each pair runs its own independent signal queue.

The strategy’s structural risk point is the stop loss at 800 points (StopLoss parameter). On pairs with wide spread spikes — common during major news events — the effective exit price can diverge significantly from the configured level, turning a contained loss into a larger one. This is a partial weakness: spread spikes cannot be eliminated, but scheduling the EA off during scheduled high-impact news events (NFP, FOMC) reduces the exposure window.
The maximum consecutive loss run across all backtests reached 5 trades (EURUSD and EURSGD) and 7 trades (GBPCAD). At minimum $20 deposit, 7 consecutive losses at GBPCAD’s largest loss trade of $6.41 each would consume the majority of the account — the $20 floor is a technical minimum, not a recommended operating level.
The live account data covers 208 trades from 2019 — recent spread behavior, execution latency, and current broker conditions are not reflected in that record.
How Top Bottom EA Works
Mechanism: The EA detects volatility expansion on EURUSD, GBPCAD, and EURSGD and enters in the direction of the emerging move. The Volatility parameter (default 110) sets the sensitivity threshold — higher values require stronger momentum before entry. One position opens at a time, held approximately 12 hours, which prevents multiple simultaneous open trades from compounding exposure during volatile sessions.
Signal Trigger: Entry fires when the volatility reading crosses the configured threshold. The PointDifferenceLimit (50.0) acts as a spread filter — if current spread exceeds this value, the EA skips the signal. This prevents entries during abnormally wide spread conditions.
Position Close: Each trade carries a fixed Take Profit of 300 points and a Stop Loss of 800 points. No trailing stop or basket close logic — each trade closes independently at its TP or SL level.
Exposure Limits: One trade at a time is the primary exposure control. The 800-point stop loss defines the maximum loss per trade. CompoundInterest is set to false by default — lot size stays fixed at 0.1 rather than scaling with account growth.
✅ Optimal conditions: Trending sessions with directional momentum on EURUSD or GBPCAD; stable spread environments where the PointDifferenceLimit filter functions as designed.
⚠️ Avoid when: High-impact news events that cause sudden spread spikes beyond 50 points — the filter may not block entry fast enough if the spike occurs mid-candle; choppy, range-bound markets where volatility readings trigger entries without follow-through.

Who Should Use Top Bottom EA
Purchase this EA if you:
- ✅ Run MT4 on a VPS with continuous uptime — trades hold ~12 hours and require the terminal online throughout.
- ✅ Trade EURUSD, GBPCAD, or EURSGD with an ECN/STP broker where typical spread on EURUSD stays under 20 points.
- ✅ Operate with $500+ capital — the $20 technical minimum leaves no buffer for 5+ consecutive losses at default lot size.
- ✅ Want single-position-at-a-time exposure with a hard stop on every trade — no grid, no Martingale, no open-ended risk.
